kaRaoKe MoTeL
Projection design & video installations (2012)
Written and directed by Thomas Riccio, staged/installed in a former icehouse in West Dallas, TX
Immersive theatre/performance production by DWZ Collective
kaRaoKe MoTeL was the third installment in a trilogy of a karmic life cycle immersion performances presented by the Dead White Zombies. Following Flesh World (death) and (w)hole (afterlife), kaRaoKe MoTeL was rebirth. kaRaoKe MoTeL was be a site-specific performance immersion, whereby audiences entered into and were immersed in a narrative. Each audience member began with a "processing" going through a series of initiatory moments to prepare them for their journey, the path they chose was up to them and chance. A multiplicity of events would occur, often simultaneously, throughout the 20,000 s/f space.
To keep things intimate and like the cycles of life, only forty-eight Strangers (audience members) were admitted; Sixteen Strangers at 8:02, 8:13 and 8:24. The performance was produced by Lori M. McCarty and supported generously by Butch McGregor and Trinity Groves and Luke Lafitte and LAWHR.
“Regardless what it means to you, Dead White Zombies' latest immersive show KaRaoKe MoTeL strangely offers a sense of well-being.” —TheaterJones Reviews
